What should the Obama family look for in a new pet dog? – Part 15

The Presidential Dog

Becoming the American President is an exciting and challenging opportunity for anyone. Along with the traditional customs of Presidential life, however, there also comes with it the chance to introduce a new puppy into the fray. Barack Obama promised his daughters a new puppy if he won the Presidential election. When that wish came true, it became a national obsession as to which breed of dog the President-elect would choose. Since there are allergies in the family, a hypoallergenic dog would be best, but which one? There are several hypoallergenic dogs, but one stands out as a clear winner for the Presidential family.

The standard poodle is a hypoallergenic dog that is great with children, and calm around strangers. Because the Presidential life involves many staffers and visitors, the dog would need to be able to get along well with new people. The poodle is intelligent and well behaved (especially in the Oval Office). It is also easy to take care of. One walk a day is usually acceptable for this breed, and it can be trained to facilitate American, as well as foreign dignitaries.

With the pet overpopulation crisis in this country, and the high rate of euthanasia for healthy animals in American shelters, the best choice for the Presidential family would have to be a shelter dog. This way, they save a life, and become parents to a loving, and grateful animal. If they are looking specifically for a puppy, they could search the shelters in their state to find a poodle puppy that is available. No matter which dog they choose, however, selecting a shelter dog instead of going to a breeder or pet store, is the most humane and compassionate choice to make.
