Let’s face it-pets are a popular topic. A Google search for “pet care” returns over eighteen million links, and “pet training” produces a million and a half. Whether you’re an experienced pet owner or just taking the leap for the first time, there are always things to learn about the animals we choose to share our lives and homes with. And the Internet makes finding these answers easier than ever.

But with that many links available, how can you narrow it down? Here’s a list with a variety of sites that can help you find just the tidbits you’re looking for to take the best possible care of your pet.

Caring for Your Pet

For information on pet health and advice from veterinarians, check out Healthypet and Petplace.

The website of the American Animal Hospital Association, healthypet.com offers a variety of informative articles about cats, dogs, and even exotic pets. There’s an FAQ for each category, with a list of questions submitted by readers of the site. There’s also a guide to help you find an AAHA member veterinarian in your area. Healthypet.com can give you a great starting off point for finding information about your pet’s health, whether certain conditions require immediate veterinary care, and who you can see to help your pet with health issues.

Petplace offers informative articles on many subjects, from what to name your dog or cat to training tips and veterinarian-supplied advice on pet health. There are over 10,000 articles approved by veterinarians, and the site itself is run by a vet, lending authority to the information it offers. There’s also a newsletter for either dog or cat owners that you can subscribe to. You can even submit pictures and video of your own pets to share with other users of the site. There’s a little something for everyone heredefinitely a place to spend some time with.

Pet Insurance

A relatively new entry in the list of things to worry about when you have a pet, pet insurance can be confusing, complicated and expensive. Here are a couple of sites that can help you decide if pet insurance is right for you.

“Pet Insurance Info doesn’t offer pet insurance, but instead provides information on what pet insurance is, how it works, how much it costs, and a list of companies that offer insurance for pets. A site like this can be helpful if you want to educate yourself before deciding whether or not to pursue a policy.
