Things to consider when choosing a dog – Part 1

There are at least 4 things to consider when getting a dog or puppy. It isnt nearly as easy as “That ones cute, lets buy him.”

1. You have to consider what breed will be suitable for your living conditions. For example, if you live in an appartment or a small home, a smaller breed would be better, or, depending on the size of the appartment, it might not be suitable to get a dog quite yet.

2. You have to consider wether or not you can afford everything the dog needs, for example shots, food, toys, and possibly even obedience training. Dogs themselves can be very expensive to begin with, but you also have to buy a lot of accesories. If you want to crate the dog you need to buy a crate.

3. You should think about how much time you have to devote to a puppy. I personally would recomend a schedule where someone is home at all times. Dogs require a lot of attention. They do not like being crated for long periods of time. If you plan to get a puppy make sure you have a lot of time to play with it.

4. You should consider what breed would be best for your situation. A small breed, or a large breed. A breed that is good with children if you have any. Or if you do not like a lot of hair hanging around, a breed that doesnt shed as much. Labradors are wonderful dogs, they are good with children, but they shed a lot.

After considering all of these things, you should be on your way to getting a happy and healthy dog.
