Be a Worthy Dog Owner and Get your Precious Pet a Dog Insurance

If wishes were horses, I would have a house full of dogs of every breed possible. Alas, that is not to be and I have satisfied myself with keeping just four dogs, one cocker spaniel, two labrador retrievers and one beagle. And without doubt this is one of the best decisions that I have taken in my life. The warm welcome and love which your pets shower on you after you are home from a hard day at work, is worth any trouble that you may have to take for your pets. I am sure that all dog owners can vouch for this fact, based on their personal experiences. Also, once you have a dog, you realize that good pet care is much more than food and games. According to my experience, I feel that the best care that you can provide for your pet is through a reliable dog insurance and everything else will fall into place.

Besides providing your dog with nutritious diet and regular grooming and exercise, there are many other small gestures which go a long way in ensuring that you have healthy and happy pets. A routine visit to the veterinary is part of a proper care for a dog. The yearly vaccinations and regular check ups are an essential part of pet care and all this costs money. As a responsible owner, I am sure that most of us plan out a monthly budget keeping the dog’s needs in mind; however, emergencies and unplanned expenditures do happen. A well planned dog insurance can then save the day for you and definitely for your pet. Some basic pointers, however, need to be paid special attention to, while selecting an appropriate dog insurance policy for your pet.

Whenever you approach a pet insurance company for a dog insurance plan for your pet, make sure that you have completed your background research about the company. Existing clients of the company or interaction with past customers can be a good way to judge the service and product offering of the insurance company. Once you are confirmed about the reliability and credentials of the company you can go ahead and plan the right policy for your beloved pet. Dog insurance plans will be decided after keeping the age, gender and breed of your pet. Make sure that you find out about all the diseases covered under the plan, as some of the hereditary or genetic diseases can be expensive to cure.

A secured dog insurance plan should also cover the regular veterinary expenditures and unplanned medical emergencies. Some insurance plans also have provisions for special circumstances like a lost pet scenario or perhaps injury to a third person by your pet. Carefully weigh all your options and select the plan most suited to your pet’s requirements. You will find that the nominal premium which you pay on a dog insurance turns out to be much less than what you would normally pay from your pocket for the same expenses. So, get your dog an insurance cover and both of you can rest easy for life.

Advanced Dog Obedience Training – the Secret Revealed

Advanced dog obedience training make you wonder just how obedience a dog might be after dog training. Dog training is one package isn’t it?

It should be noted that there are different levels of dog training as there are different levels in our own education system.

Advanced dog obedience training makes your dog a much better behaved dog than standard dog training.

You did not start your education as a child in 5 grade; you had to start in kindergarten or nursery school. You had to learn how to play, interact and learn and get on with others.

With dogs, dog training is the kindergarten of advanced dog obedience training.

Most dog owners are usually happy as soon as their dog begin to eats inside and goes outside to relieve themself. Others dog owners are only happy once the dog is doing 100% responding to every command.

Advanced dog obedience training requires the dog to respond to every command as soon as it is given. To control the dog five commands are necessary. They are “Down”, “Heel”, “Sit”, “Stay” and “Come”.

A dog must respond immediately to those commands by a family member in order to be considered properly trained according to advanced dog obedience training standards.

Once a dog has recieved even basic dog training, he becomes much for fun to live with. As an owner it will be possible to communicate with your dog as your dog is even able to learn and interpret some basic words of your native language. Advanced dog obedience training is for that reason considered top priority to ensure your dog is well behaved.

Believe it or not, your dog dog can learn much more than just standard commands, just as you are able to learn much more than basic reading and counting. The similarities between man and dog don’t end here. As you go through school, the education gets harder. You must work harder to achieve higher grades. Your dog must also work harder in advanced dog obedience training.

There are various levels of dog obedience training and you can learn more about them from the Kennel Club and at dog shows in your own country. There are of course different classes, grades and levels of basic dog obedience training and advanced dog obedience training. Almost the same as you get in any high school or college.

All dogs have a great capacity for learning almost anything you want to teach them. We have rescue dogs, guide dogs and guard dogs. All of these are great examples of how well dogs can be trained and intergrated into our society.

Dogs relish advanced dog obedience training, not only does it benefit you as an owner, but for the dog it gives them a feeling of self satisfaction and the w=feeling of being wanted. Most importantly for their own natural instinct of being part of a pack.

Tips for general pet care – Part 5

Just feeding and watering your dog daily is not all he needs. Remember, daily teeth brushings are essential, especially with small dogs who tend to have more dental problems than large dogs. Daily or weekly coat brushing is advised to keep your pet’s coat shiny and flea free. Monthly heartworm preventative is a must. In certain climates, it is ok to take them off the preventative for a few really cold months, but another heartworm check is needed to start them back on the preventative, so cost wise, you might want to keep them on it. Annual exams along with vaccinations are not only imperative to good health, but also some vaccinations are required by the law, such as rabies shots. Keeping the nails trimmed helps your pet walk better and keeps them from scratching the kids. If your pet won’t let you trim its nails with nail clippers, try using a heavy duty emery boardat least it will knock off the sharp edges. Most of all, remember hugs and kisses. Dogs and cats both love to receive special attention, so when the kids are in bed, or out playing, take a few extra minutes to hug man’s best friend.

Challenges of having many cats in one household – Part 3

Everyone I know has a little cat that are in there home all cozy and energetic. Who wouldn’t want a friend when no one els is around? I certainly would want one if I was alone or sad, especially when I have a bad day at work. The little cat just comes up to you and purrs, but be aware that the may have a bad day too.

The number one thing people mistake when finding a pet is it’s personality. I know a cat is a nice looking fur ball, but at times they could be outspoken. Then, the cat would mount and attack you for no apparent reason, but you can sometimes change this with training and discipline of the cat. For me I have a adult cat and about five others in my big house. If you are going to have lots of cats at least have a house. I don’t recommend you to have so many in a trailer though. A trailer is not a good environment for a animal nor it si for a human. I live in a house like I said.

If you go out one day and your furry friends fallow you this is a danger at the most ext ream. The little thing is not smart and mite kill itself in the road. Always close the door behind you when going out of the house, and be couscous. The next challenge of having cats in your home is them being so destructive. To tackle this situation you need to train your cat. I know this sounds like a retard but its true. They way you do it is you have to smack it on the nose, talk to id, and pat it with lots of attention. I took the process and in about a month they learned. I mean all the basics of a human except in cat form. I think ist just astounding to me, but I don’t know about you.

All cat owners say that they take a nice little dump every so often, so you need o have some ways to overcome this. What I do is put a big, round, and toilet like litter box in the house. I surely have a little cat room so they can do there dumping in peace. My cats have some much poop and owners don’t always like to clean up the box. For five cats and five litter boxes I dump them five times a week. It’s like one nasty dump every day.

A cats nature is to kill and attack for food, so let the cats out side for a short time to hunt. Also have some litter boxes that are very big and strong. Discipline you pets in a natural way and most of all don’t leave the door open. You will be a fantastic owner if you fallow these easy and at the same time hard steps. I don’t even think there hard.

Cat vitamins: The best vitamins for cats

Understanding cat vitamin requirements

Whether you are a new cat owner or have had a feline family member for years, you need to know how to keep your cat healthy. Prevention is key to a long, happy life for your pet, and one of the steps you can take to keeping your cat healthy is providing your pet with cat vitamins. A daily regimen of cat vitamins, in addition to a sensible, balanced cat diet, goes a long way to maintaining your pet’s immune system, keeping a glossy coat, and even preventing debilitating mood swings. A well-balanced cat diet of proteins, fruits and vegetables should provide the essential vitamins your pet needs, but too often owners rely on processed cat foods, which can be deficient in necessary vitamins. If you do feed your cat generic or processed foods, supplement his or her diet with cat vitamins to prevent vitamin deficiencies.

So just what types of vitamins does your cat need? Well, there are basically two groups of cat supplements: water solubles and fat solubles. Because water solubles are not stored and are easily depleted, it is important that you add these to provide good cat nutrition. The basic water solubles are Vitamins C and B complex vitamins like thiamin and niacin. If your cat does not get a sufficient amount of these vitamins, he or she may suffer certain conditions such as slowed healing, disease susceptibility, loss of nerve and reflex functions as well as general weakness in the limbs. Vitamin C even prevents urinary tract infections. Thiamin supplements are especially important if you feed your cat large amounts of raw fish as this leads to Thiamin deficiency.

Because fat soluble vitamins are stored in your cat’s fatty tissues, it is important that you do not oversupplement. Always consult with a veterinarian regarding the right dosages for your cat. One of the main fat solubles is Vitamin A, which prevents blindness and provides your cat with normal growth as well as a healthy skin and coat quality. A Vitamin D deficiency can lead to rickets while Vitamin E is essential in reproductive health. Another fat soluble, Vitamin K, provides increased clotting time, which prevents hemorraging. Again, many of these are found in vegetables and fruits. However, generic cat food may not provide sufficient dosages to meet cat vitamin requirements.

Because cat nutrition is very complex and relies on they type of cat you have, as well as his or her age and weight, you should always consult with an expert to provide the right amount of cat supplements to your cat diet. Your cat will thank you for it with added years of affection.

Toilet training tips for cats – Part 14

Toilet training tips for cats.

Training a kitten to use a litter box is certaintly one of the easiest tasks to do. Before you bring your new kitten home, make sure you already have the necessary supplies.

Supplies for toilet training a cat would include a litter box, and a bag of litter. Litter that clumps with baking soda for the lessening of odor works very well.

Here comes the easy part. Pick up your new kitten and introduce it to the litter box.

Hold the kitten gently with your hands having control of the kittens front paws. Take the kittens paws and gently dig their paws back and forth in the litter a few times. This is all it should take for your kitten to learn to use the litter box.

This method will work for older cats also. It has always worked for my wonder kitty’s. Simple and sure.

Being a responsible pet owner – Part 2

In my opinion, most people should not even consider keeping a dog at all. Whilst they may look very cute/cuddly/appealing in the pet shop window, there is a huge list of chores that come with them that is seldom alluded to by the seller. The obvious chores, to most people at least, include the mundane daily tasks of feeding, watering and walking. Oh yes, these things do not sound too arduous when you do not have to do them but in my experience, the honeymoon period with your new pet is usually very short lived.

What most people seem to fail to understand, is that the animal will still require these things when the time comes for the family to make their annual pilgrimage to the Costa Brava. With holiday pet care likely to be more expensive than leaving your car at the airport, this additional cost is rarely taken into account by those seeking to get away from it all.

Vets, on the whole, do not work for peanuts and this is another cost which is very often overlooked when faced with those beautiful eyes staring out from the pet shop cage or breeder’s stable. Simple inoculations can cost the same as a family’s household’s weekly food bill whilst cures for simple ailments could adequately feed some third world family for a year. More major operations would run the family car a close second in the amount that should be budgeted for.

Monetary matters aside, there are many other factors which do not appear in the advertising. Hairs all over the carpets and upholstery, the ‘occasional’ accident on the sheepskin rug and the sudden increase in clothing replacement are all things which are seldom thought about before the purchase of a new house-mate. What about noise or other nuisances to your neighbors? Do you really want the bother of finding out how to replace the remote control unit for your television set? If you like to wake up in your own time in the mornings, how will you adjust to being woken up because your new dog works to a different timetable?

Many people acquire dogs because they are pestered into doing so by their offspring. This is not a good ploy. It is not usually the children who willingly volunteer to take the dog out in the pouring rain or, come to that, to toweling the animal dry again so that it does not splatter mud all over the house. It is certainly not the children who have to cope with the increase in the required amount of housework: the sudden escalation in the amount of dusting, cleaning and vacuuming needed.

Whilst in the short term a puppy may appear cheaper than the latest computer games consul, in the long term, an investment in one of these machines will almost certainly be cheaper and will probably hold their attention for far longer.

For the right people, dogs certainly have their place; all I ask, is that you are sure that you are in the right place, mentally and physically, for a dog.

Teach your cat to fetch – Part 1

Fetch is not at all a hard trick to teach a cat, if you take advantage of the cat’s natural tendency to pounce. The sweetest, cuddliest cat was designed by nature as a predator; it is in his or her DNA. It is this trait that fetch training exploits.

Any cat training should be done at a time when there are few or no distractions, and when the cat or kitten is in a wide awake and playful mood. I strongly advise that only one cat be trained per session, and that sessions be short enough that the cat does not become bored and restless. Fetch is very easy to train though, and it is possible the cat will be fully trained after one session.

Pet supply stores sell a variety of toys suitable for fetch training, for example the light fluffy balls from Whisker City that are designed to be recharged with catnip. You do not want to use catnip at this time though, so use a stale puff. Any other small light cat toy will work as well, or you can make one with lightly crumpled foil. Attach a line of white or clear sewing thread tightly to the toy. You will also need some of whatever treat you normally use to reward your pet.

Now, to the actual training: Wave the toy around to catch the cat’s attention, and then toss it on the floor a few feet away. The cat will most likely leap on it. When it does, slowly reel the ball in, bringing the cat with it. Then praise and reward the cat. Wave the ball around again, and repeat. Eventually, you can detach the string, because the cat has learned the trick.

Reinforcement is the psychological term for the praise and rewards you give your cat to encourage the behavior you want to see. Scientists say that behaviors are established most quickly with consistent reinforcement. Therefore, reward the cat each time he or she fetches while learning. However, once the trick is mastered, the cat will perform for the most times without a reward if the rewards you dole out are intermittent. Essentially, once the cat knows the trick, you should begin training him or her to wait for a reward for good behavior. So use consistent rewards to teach the cat how to fetch, and then switch to inconsistent rewards to keep him or her performing.

Some cats just will not learn this trick. They are cats, after all, and free beings. Most cats though, will be delighted to learn. Before long, your cat may well begin to pester you to play many happy games of fetch.

Cat wormers and other cat medications

Dogs are the common house pets by many but as years pass, more and more people are recognizing that cats can be good house pets too. Decades may have proven these but it is only recently when medicative treatments have been invented to save the health of cats and other felines. One is the cat wormer which has saved hundred lives of the cats.

Years ago, cat wormers are only available in syrup but as the demand for an easier administration procedure of this treatment grew through the years, medicine manufacturers have develop suspension, tablets, spot on, and paste. Let us tackle these one by one and see which can be the most appropriate for your cat.

Liquid cat wormer. Liquid cat wormer is the most preferred type of medicine in worming cats. This is for the reason that some can be readily mixed to the food of the infected cat without any flavors added. Some of the varieties also have palatable taste to induce the cat to take the medicated food.

Suspension and tablets cat wormer. Suspension and tablet cat wormers are available in chewable tablets which can be digested easy by the cat. This offers convenience as the medication does not need to be measured up because it is in the tablet form. Dosage can be on the quantity of tablets that should be taken for the time intervals.

Cat wormer paste. This type of wormer is effective against all types of worms. This is easy to use as you only need to place the nozzle inside of the cat’s mouth and squirt it inside.

In deciding on which form of cat wormer should you take, it is wise to take the advise of a veterinarian. It is also a pre-requisite that you bring your cat with you, so as the vet may see the actual health condition of your pet. Sometimes, it is not only one parasite that infects the animal. Most often some parasites go along together. In such case, medication that addresses both infections must be administered so as to completely treat your pet.

One of the factors that can be linked to these infections is the unsanitary and unhygienic environment conditions. It is a must that you also check the cleanliness of the area to avoid possible diseases and infections not only to your pets but also to your health as well.

Cat wormers vary depending on the severity of the infection and the disease. In choosing the form of cat wormer to be administered, consult your vet and follow thoroughly the instructions indicated for easier and effective treatment of your cat. It is not enough that you ask suggestions to your friend or consult the internet. It is best to have an authority to treat and restore the health of your cat.
